Vancouver Island

The Island has a good range of climbing including numerous small crags, remote Alpine climbing, and one of Canada’s best limestone crags, Horne Lake.

Nanaimo Area: Westwood Ridges and Nanaimo River
Westwood Ridges are accessed off of the Island Highway. The Nanaimo River area is accessed from Highway 1 south of Nanaimo, both are accessible within and hour’s drive from Nanaimo. Sport and trad climbing and good top-roping.

Horne Lake
Excellent bolted limestone up to 150m long. Some of the finest limestone sport-climbing in the country is available here, with a predominance of the routes stacking up to 5.11 or harder.

Mountaineering in the Interior

Long alpine routes on rarely visited peaks, such as Mt. Colonel Foster, Mt. Arrowsmith, The Mackenzie Range, and Victoria Peak.
